To make this refreshing summer cocktail, you'll want to choose the perfect ingredients, from the right alcohol to lovely fresh fruit and fruit juices. These ingredients will make your cocktails extra special!
We make a traditional sex on the beach cocktail recipe using cranberry juice and orange juice, we use store-bought juices, but you could use freshly squeezed juices if you prefer. You could also try other fruit juice, like pineapple juice or cherry juice.
Grenadine is a popular ingredient in many cocktails because it adds a deep red-pink hue and a touch of sweetness. In the case of our cocktail, it gives the drink its distinctive colour while also balancing the flavours.
However, if you're looking to increase the alcohol content of your cocktail, you can substitute Chambord for grenadine.
We followed a traditional sex on the beach cocktail recipe and used vodka and peach schnapps.
We also added Chambord, a raspberry liqueur that enhances the overall taste and boosts your drink's potency. Remember that Chambord will slightly alter the colour and flavour profile, but it's a delicious alternative worth trying!
You can use any alcohol brand or peach liqueur as the juice adds sweetness and a fruity taste and hides the liquor flavours, so choose your favourite or go for the budget options.
You could skip the alcohol altogether and add peach juice and pineapple juice to the cocktail instead to make a delicious virgin cocktail or 'mocktail' beach drink version.
We added a garnish of fresh fruit on a cocktail stick to complete the summery appearance of this beach cocktail. Maraschino cherries, placed on either side of orange slices, looks fantastic.
You could use tropical fruits like pineapple and mango or good old classics like lemon and lime. Frozen fruits could also be used in place of fresh if desired.
Ice cubes are vital to creating the fun ombre effect that we love in these fantastic fruity cocktail drinks, but crushed ice or frozen fruit could be used instead. If you don't like ice in your drink, you could skip it altogether, but again you won't get that colour separation.
We suggest giving it a mix and combining the colours before drinking anyway, as the flavours are amazing.
There isn't much equipment required for this sex on the beach cocktail recipe.
A cocktail shaker would be helpful, though you could use a clean empty bottle to shake the drink inside if you don't have one.
You will also need glasses to serve. We like to use a nice highball glass or hurricane glass with ice.
These instructions will give you an amazing sex on the beach cocktail to enjoy.
It takes very little prep time, so you can play bartender for your friends or pretend you're at the beach with a book in no time! We'll give you an overview here, but you can go straight to the recipe card.
Making the yellow mix
Take your peach schnapps and orange juice and, add them to your cocktail shaker, fill it with lots of ice! Mixing the drink well, you'll want to shake this vigorously for at least 10 seconds.
Pour this into a glass and fill it with ice cubes, making sure the ice goes to the top, as it will help get that lovely double-layer drink that looks amazing.
Slowly pour your vodka on top.
Creating the red mix
Take your cocktail shaker and mix your cranberry juice and Chambord, don't forget to leave the ice out this time if you want to achieve that lovely two-layered effect.
Slowly and carefully pour your red mix onto the ice cubes. You want to avoid pouring it directly onto the yellow blend as it will mix too quickly then and combine the colours.
Adding the topping
We threaded a cherry, then an orange wedge and another cherry onto a cocktail stick to garnish. We found these colours complimented the drink wonderfully, and the fruit was tasty with the drink.

These cocktails are so tasty that we highly doubt there will be any leftovers to store, and they will taste best when fresh. However, you could keep the sex on the beach cocktail in the fridge for up to three days.
No, the fruit flavours mask the alcohol taste, so it doesn't taste strong (so be careful about how much you drink!) If you prefer a stronger alcohol flavour, you can play with the measurements to suit you.
Leave out the alcohol and enjoy a delicious virgin cocktail, or Mocktail, as they're commonly known. We would also add a dash of peach juice or tropical juice to enhance the flavours of the orange and cranberry.
