Is Jasmine Rice and Sticky Rice the same thing?
Jasmine Rice and glutinous (sticky) rice are 2 different types of rice.
Jasmine rice is mostly grown in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, it is naturally sticky when cooked. Although it is not as sticky as glutinous or sushi rice.
How do I make Jasmine Rice sticky?
The key to making your Jasmine sticky rice is NOT to wash it first! Other kinds of rice should have their starch rinsed before cooking.
However, Jasmine rice needs starch, which, when cooked, acts like glue to hold the rice grains together! Follow our recipe below or read on for more advice and serving/ storage suggestions.

How much uncooked rice should be cooked to serve one person?
Half a cup (95g) of uncooked rice makes a whole cup of cooked rice (250g), which is enough for one person.
What pan should I use for cooking rice?
When cooking rice, you will need a simple lidded stainless steel saucepan. You do not need to use a non-stick pan.

Do I add cold or hot water to cook rice?
Always pour cold water into your rice and bring the water to a boil with the rice. This is part of the cooking process to perfect your rice.

Rice to Water ratio for jasmine rice?
Measure your rice & cold water using the below ratio.
It is especially important to follow the measurements, during cooking the water will completely soak into the rice. The chart below shows how much rice and water you will need.
| Serves | Jasmine Rice | Water |
| 2 people | 1 cup / 190g | 1 â…“ cup / 330ml |
| 4 people | 2 cups / 380g | 2 ¾ cup / 660ml |
| 6 people | 3 cups / 570g | 4 ¼ cup / 990ml |

What do you add to give flavour to Jasmine rice?
Jasmine rice is naturally very fragrant. For extra flavour, try adding a pinch of salt and star anise to give it a subtle sweetness. One star anise is fine, or add two for a stronger flavour.
Lemongrass is another popular flavour addition.
How do you cook sticky rice?
Using the above measurements, bring the water to the boil with rice, keeping the lid off. Once it has reached a boil, put a lid on and turn the heat to the lowest setting.
Put the timer on for 8 minutes. Do not feel tempted to open the lid during these 8 minutes, it will certainly ruin the result!!

After 8 minutes, turn the heat off. Allow another 5 minutes with the lid on to soak the remaining liquid.and remove the lid.
Remove the Star Anise and fluff up the Jasmine rice grains with a fork. You are ready to serve up!

What to serve Jasmine rice with?
Jasmine sticky rice tastes fabulous served with Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese dishes.
We like to serve our Jasmine Sticky Rice in a dome shape.

A small bowl, glass, or even a teacup would work! Press the rice into the bowl; you don't need to press too hard. Remember, it is sticky anyway! Then turn the bowl upside down onto the plate/bowl you are serving it in!
Finally, add your curry around or to the side of your perfectly cooked Jasmine Rice! As seen below, served with our delicious Pressure Cooker Thai Beef Massaman.

Storage
Cooked rice requires proper storage to maintain its quality and prevent spoilage. Here are some tips for storing jasmine rice to ensure it stays fresh and delicious.
Fridge
The best way to store cooked jasmine rice is in an airtight container or sealed bag. To prevent bacteria growth, store it in the fridge within one hour of cooking.
Cooked rice can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.
Freezing
For longer storage periods, cooked rice can also be frozen. Freeze it in portion-sized packets or containers for easy thawing and reheating. When frozen properly, cooked rice can last up to one month without significant changes in texture or flavour. Thaw frozen rice in the refrigerator overnight before reheating, or use the defrost setting on your microwave if you're short on time.

Reheating
When ready to enjoy your pre-cooked rice, ensure it's reheated thoroughly until piping hot. Avoid reheating multiple times to prevent bacterial growth.

Recipe is wonderful. However, your conversion to US for the 2 cup recipe is incorrect. It should read 2 2/3 not 3 3/4.

This is delicious thanks for sharing this lovely meal.
Ben says
This works...but it takes 30-40 minutes with 2 cups of rice. If it only takes you 8 minutes then you must be using a special jasmine minute rice.

Thanks! I will be trying this method today!
If I wanted to make it a sweet sticky rice with what I have on hand will that work? I was thinking cinnamon stick instead of the star anise and real maple syrup. That rice with fruit in a spring roll.
wendy says
So inspired I tried it. After 8 minutes the rice wasn't cooked. I added more water, and left it on a while longer, added more water and let it cook a bit more. The rice smells like oatmeal and tastes delicious! I was testing this made up recipe so I did 1/2 c rice and water, 2.5 generous tbsp of maple syrup, and 1/2 cinnamon stick.

I just made it and found the same. I even added extra water as the measurements for 3 cups of rice did not work with the lower cup(s) to water ratios. Just added another half cup of water and hoping that will get it cooked all the way.
Kay says
Hi Susan,
Thank you for your comments I am going to check the measurements again when I cook it next week?
Did the extra 1/2 cup help?
I may have written it down wrong on the instructions?

I loved making this! It was nice and easy and came out great! I was just wondering if I could make it in a normal pot rather than stainless steel.
Kay says
Yes you can use any saucepan 😉
