Ingredients
To make air fryer potatoes you will need just a few simple ingredients that most people already have in their cupboards.
These are the ingredients we used, I will also give some other suggestions for different seasonings you can use.
Baby Potatoes
Sometimes called mini potatoes, new potatoes, or baby red potatoes, they come in many varieties, any of which are suitable for this air-frying recipe.
You may want to cook whole baby potatoes but I usually cut the potatoes in half before cooking. This makes them cook quickly and evenly and gives you the best crispy baby potatoes.
Small potatoes are naturally higher in sugar content, giving them a sweeter taste, they have been picked earlier on in the growing process and their softer skin means they don’t need to be peeled before they are cooked.
Oil
We like to use olive oil for cooking roasted baby potatoes in the air fryer as it gives them a great flavour and texture and helps them turn a lovely golden brown.
Or other cooking oil options are avocado oil, and vegetable oil. If you want to use less oil, you could use an olive oil spray.
Air Fryer Potatoes Seasoning
Here are a few seasonings you may like to try on your potatoes cooked in the air fryer. Experiment with what your family prefers!
Salt and Pepper
For perfectly seasoned potatoes in the air fryer, freshly ground black pepper and salt are all you really need.
Herbs
Dried herbs and seasonings can be added during cooking, Italian seasoning, thyme, and dried rosemary are a few options.
Fresh herbs, on the other hand, are best added as a garnish after cooking time to prevent them from burning.
Piri Piri Seasoning
Piri Piri seasoning is what we have used in this blog post and seen in the pictures. A blend of chilli powder, cumin, garlic, salt, oregano and chilli flakes.
Mix it with olive oil, and toss potatoes to coat in the mixture before cooking. This gives the potatoes an incredible spicy flavour.
Then fresh parsley added after cooking is a firm family favourite here.
Parmesan Cheese
You could also add parmesan cheese at the end of the cooking process so it doesn’t burn.
Garlic
Garlic puree is, easy and ready to use and gives your air fried potatoes a big flavour. You can also use fresh, finely pressed garlic if you prefer.
Or you can use garlic powder or garlic granules. However, you’ll need to be careful with how much garlic powder you season potatoes with, as they can easily be overpowering.
Cajun Seasoning
Toss potatoes in olive oil and cajun seasoning before air frying. Then add fresh rosemary to the air fryer baby potatoes after they are cooked.
Equipment
You will need a big enough air fryer basket to air fry the potatoes you need in a single layer. I have a ninja dual, which easily fits 500 grams of potatoes, chopped in half. For larger families or if using a smaller air fryer, you may need to cook them in multiple batches.
Instructions
Here is a run-through of how to make baby crispy potatoes in the air fryer.
The full instructions and ingredients measurements can be found in the air fryer baby potatoes recipe card.Wash and dry baby potatoes before chopping your mini potatoes in half.
In a large bowl, add oil and your chosen seasoning.
Toss potatoes into the bowl with your oil and chosen herbs, stir through until they’re fully coated with your seasoning.
Add the seasoned potatoes to the air fryer basket in a single layer so they can cook evenly.
Alternate Less Oil Option
If you prefer to use less oil, olive oil spray will evenly coat the mini potatoes without using too much. Spray in a large bowl and add the seasonings before you place potatoes in the air fryer basket.
Cooking Time
Set the cook mode to air fry at 190°C and the cook time to 20 minutes, shaking the air fryer basket halfway through the cooking time.
Whole baby potatoes or larger potatoes may take longer to cook, so check with a fork after 20 minutes. If not golden brown and tender throughout, cook for longer.
And that is it! Your crispy, delicious air fryer baby potatoes are ready to serve immediately. Great served with a sprinkle of fresh herbs.
